Online Special Education Teacher

Dan Spring has been a special education teacher working for SelfDesign, an online school, for about 8 years. During that time, he has specialized in supporting Neurodiverse students with a variety of supports, strategies and accommodations. Part of his job involves counselling with parents and learners on a regular basis. He also hires teams of professionals like Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists and tutors to work with children to help them overcome learning obstacles. Dan has bachelors degrees in English and Education from the Universities of Waterloo and British Columbia, respectively. Currently, he is finishing his Masters in Transformative Learning, with a focus on Neurodiversity. Dan also recently obtained accreditation as a Natural Learning Relationships practitioner, with a special focus on working with children - and the families of children - who live with Autism.

2022 CONFERENCE SESSION

SESSION: An Informal Chat About Homeschooling and Autism

With 10 years of experience working with neurodiverse children in online educational settings, Dan Spring will be present for a question and answer session regarding how homeschooling parents might better support their learners with a variety of strategies and resources. The focus for this session will be Dan’s areas of expertise, which include knowing where to source support for specific areas of concern, specific strategies that might support your child’s success in educational contexts, how to think from an inside perspective about your child’s learning relationships, and why considering how your child constructs their identity is so important to their long-term success.
