MARY-LOU MACLEAN

NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR LEARNING DEVELOPMENT / NILD CANADA

Mary-Lou has worked with children from the time she was a teenager continuing on to eventually becoming a teacher in two different Christian schools. After several years of classroom teaching she started working with children who struggled with learning difficulties before and after school through a program called the National Institute for Learning Development and found a passion in helping struggling learners. She has worked with children from every educational background: public school, Christian school and home school. She is now a stay- at- home mom with one eleven- year- old son and continues to work through NILD in teaching home school parents and teachers how to help struggling learners reach their full potential.

2022 CONFERENCE SESSION

SESSION: Giftedness and Twice Exceptionality

This workshop discusses two topics which often intersect as well. Learn how to identify giftedness in a student as well as students who may be gifted along with having a learning disability. We will discover how to work with gifted students in the classroom including motivational techniques, as well as helping them deal with the emotional quotient. Learn how to identify twice-exceptionality in a student and find a good educational fit for them in the classroom. We will unpack topics such as communication, underachievement, self-management, perfectionism, peer relations, interventions for learning disabilities and how to find professional helps.
