SESSION: SQUARE PEGS - UNDERSTANDING TWICE EXCEPTIONAL LEARNERS
Children who are both very bright and have a learning difference can have unique needs. Their ability to compensate can make it hard to figure out where exactly they need support and enrichment. In this workshop, we delve deeper into what 2E is, how to spot it using assessment results or anecdotal measures you can use at home, and look at home schooling strategies that support both ends of their learning spectrum.
SESSION: ENGLISH SPELLING ISN'T WEIRD - A MEANINGFUL APPROACH TO SPELLING
Does your child struggle with spelling? Do you feel frustrated by endless lists of spelling words to practice? In this meaning - based approach to spelling we look at modern, evidence - based approaches to spelling instruction that are more fun than traditional memorization and are more successful for different brain types. Come away with new strategies that you can use right away with your children, and make spelling a fascinating, child directed subject that can be woven in throughout your homeschooling.
I’m working on making this world a place where all kids can achieve their dreams and share their incredible gifts with us all. I work mostly with people who identify as neurodiverse. I support elementary aged children who struggle with math and literacy, and I support teens and young adults who are holding all the pieces they need for academic success but are having a hard time putting them together. Unlocking the hidden talents of the young people I work with is my absolute passion. Along with my academic background, comes the experiences of being a dyslexic kid and parenting a differently wired kid through public, private, and home-schooling environments.
